Yamaha unveiled a safer scooter

Yamaha has introduced the 2026 Tricity 300, describing it as the world’s first three-wheeled scooter with a built-in airbag. The system was developed together with Swedish safety company Autoliv, bringing a feature long associated with cars into the scooter segment. Reports Rozetked.me.

The airbag system relies on a G-sensor mounted near the center of the body. In a frontal crash, the airbag deploys from beneath the handlebar to help protect the rider. Yamaha says the setup is calibrated to avoid triggering by mistake during hard braking or side slips.

According to test data, the new technology sharply cuts the risk of serious head injury. In one crash test, the head injury index was measured at 6,794 points without the airbag and 118 points with it. A score of 500 is generally considered the threshold for fatal danger.

Beyond the safety upgrade, the Tricity 300 keeps its familiar mechanical package. It uses a 292 cc single-cylinder engine producing 27.6 horsepower, paired with a CVT transmission, a 13-liter fuel tank and three 14-inch wheels. Fuel consumption is listed at 3.3 liters per 100 kilometers. The current model sells for around $10,000, so the new version is expected to cost more when sales begin in the second quarter of 2026.
