Nigel Farage under investigation over gift from crypto billionaire

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is facing an investigation by the parliamentary standards commissioner. The politician is suspected of failing to declare £5 million ($6.7 million) received from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne. This is reported by Cointelegraph.com reports .
According to the BBC, the parliamentary commissioner has launched an inquiry to determine whether Farage breached House of Commons rules. Nigel Farage maintains that he received the funds before his election to parliament in 2024 and was under no obligation to disclose them. However, critics argue that the payment should have been registered once he became an MP.
The Conservative Party has appealed to the parliamentary watchdog and the Electoral Commission, demanding an official investigation into the donation. This situation has intensified scrutiny of financial ties involving crypto-assets in UK politics.
Farage also recently faced criticism for appearing in a promotional video for the company Stack BTC. The politician holds a 6.31% stake in the company, leading to calls for an investigation into potential violations of financial market regulations.
In the UK, political donations in the form of cryptocurrency are coming under increasing scrutiny. Reform UK became the first political force to accept crypto-donations in 2025, but the National Security Strategy Committee is urging the government to impose a moratorium on this type of funding.
