One of the most frequently asked questions about human aging is: why do wrinkles appear on the skin? Is it a natural process, or is it possible to get rid of them? Recently, American scientists provided a scientifically based answer to this question, reported Peopletalk.

What did the scientific research show?

According to the results of experiments conducted by scientists from Binghamton University (USA), wrinkles appear as a result of prolonged tension and pressure applied to the skin.

This was discussed in an article published in Science Direct. The scientists artificially stretched pieces of human skin using special equipment and observed how they changed.

Experts emphasized that this process is similar to working with plasticine: when stretched horizontally, compression occurs vertically. The same happens in the skin. Over time, this stretching takes on a complex form, and wrinkles begin to appear.

The scientists note that human skin is exposed to various movements every day — facial expressions, sleeping posture, sun exposure, air pollution, and other factors put pressure and strain on the skin.

"Over the years, the skin loses its elasticity. Especially stretching in the transverse direction causes it to wrinkle faster. The main reason is constant tension," says the study's conclusion.

The climate and lifestyle in our country are directly related to this research. Strong sunlight, airborne dust, unbalanced nutrition, and insufficient sleep significantly affect skin health.

Especially among women, interest in skincare is high. However, external treatments alone are not enough. Reducing stress on the body and nervous system is a key factor in preventing wrinkles.
