Uzbekistan suspends operations of 18 air polluting facilities

In several regions of Uzbekistan, large-scale environmental raids were conducted late yesterday evening, during which the activities of a number of enterprises that were polluting air quality were inspected. The inspections, conducted at the initiative of the Ecopolice under the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, also involved employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Guard and Internal Affairs bodies.

Operational groups formed in the city of Tashkent and in Tashkent region — in Qibray, Zangiota and Tashkent district — inspected the operations of a total of 103 enterprises. During the inspections, 38 cases of violations of atmospheric air protection requirements were identified, and administrative fines in the amount of 34.8 million soms were imposed on those responsible.

The activity of 18 objects where the most serious violations were recorded was suspended for 10 days due to the environmental damage caused. Environmental control measures are ongoing.
