A 13-year-old girl in Bukhara reportedly became pregnant as a result of sexual violence

Reports have emerged from the G‘ijduvan district of Bukhara region that a 13-year-old girl has given birth. Children’s Ombudsman Surayo Rahmonova commented on the situation.
According to her, the circulated reports mentioned that a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her stepfather. The Children’s Ombudsman noted that the girl might have been sexually abused by a person known to the family.
The girl is currently 13 years old, and the pregnancy was discovered when it was six months along, according to the Children’s Ombudsman cited by Kun.uz.
It is reported that in Bukhara region, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 118, Part 4 (related to assault on chastity) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan concerning sexual violence against a minor girl. Initial investigative actions are ongoing.
The person suspected of committing the crime has been detained through court proceedings, and the relevant preventive measure of custody has been applied. Investigative work continues, and all details are being clarified.
Within her authority, the Children’s Ombudsman continues monitoring and supervision to protect the legal interests of the child. She also urges people to refrain from trusting unverified rumors and information in unofficial publications and not to widely disseminate them.
This case once again highlights the necessity of protecting children’s rights and preventing such tragic incidents in society.
