240 buses to be brought to Tashkent, 16 new routes to be opened

Large-scale reforms aimed at fundamentally improving the public transport system in the capital are ongoing. It was announced that an additional 240 buses are planned to be purchased and 16 new routes established in Tashkent city. This was noted in the decision of the relevant standing commission of the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies.

Currently, a total of 169 routes operate in the capital's public transport system. 1,927 buses are assigned to these routes, with approximately 23,000 trips made daily on average. While these figures show the system's large scale of operation, a number of problems still remain in practice.

According to the results of analyses conducted, bus waiting times, especially during peak traffic hours, can extend up to 35-40 minutes. This causes inconvenience for residents, such as loss of time and lateness for work and studies. It was also noted that extended movement intervals on some routes further increase passenger dissatisfaction.

A number of specific measures have been defined to eliminate existing shortcomings and increase system efficiency. These include purchasing additional buses to expand the fleet. 16 new routes will be launched, and the number of daily trips will increase by another 2,000.

At the same time, special attention is being paid to shaping a modern transport infrastructure in the city. Specifically, 16.2 kilometers of BRT lanes and 56 kilometers of dedicated bus lanes will be built. Over 600 surveillance cameras are planned to be installed to ensure order on these lanes.

Bus stop infrastructure will also be updated: 1,116 existing stops will be reconstructed, and another 70 new stops will be built. Furthermore, 545 'smart' traffic lights will be installed to manage transport movement in a modern way, creating the possibility to coordinate traffic in real-time.

In short, these updates are expected to make public transport in Tashkent more convenient, faster, and efficient. If the plans are fully implemented, transport problems in the capital could be significantly reduced.
