Abdukodir Khusanov was left without a field: What awaits the Uzbek star?
A growing uncertainty surrounds Uzbekistan national team centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov, causing concern among fans. Manchester City’s manager Pep Guardiola has not fielded the 21-year-old in several recent matches — a move that has sparked plenty of speculation.

From February standout to April absence
Khusanov was among City’s best performers in February, but since being subbed off at halftime in an FA Cup match against Bournemouth on March 30, he hasn't made an appearance.

Previously, he played in 9 matches across the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, scoring one goal. However, he later lost his spot to Nico O’Riley, and has since remained on the bench.

This sudden shift surprised many, especially considering Guardiola had frequently praised Khusanov’s performances.

Spanish media sheds light
According to Spanish outlet fichajes.net, Manchester City is seriously considering sending Khusanov out on loan to help him gain more experience.

“Despite his talent, Khusanov has yet to secure a starting role. A loan move is being considered for the upcoming transfer window,” the report says.

Pep Guardiola reportedly supports the idea, believing that a temporary move could help the Uzbek international adjust to European football and gain valuable playing time.

Plenty of interest
Khusanov has attracted attention from clubs not only in the Premier League but also across Europe’s top leagues. City officials believe a loan would be a key step in the player's development and could help him become a defensive mainstay in the near future.

“This loan move is seen as a major milestone in Khusanov’s career path and his future role at City,” wrote expert Nacho Estrella Dominguez-Mompel.

Who is Abdukodir? Let’s recap
Before joining City, Khusanov played for Lens in France. On January 20, 2024, Manchester City secured his transfer, agreeing to pay €40 million plus €10 million in bonuses.

He signed a contract valid until mid-2029, and is currently valued at €35 million by Transfermarkt, making him the most expensive Central Asian footballer.
