Securing a place at the historic 2026 World Cup, to be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, is just the beginning for Uzbekistan’s national football team. It would not be an exaggeration to say so. The captain and main striker, who is defending our country’s honor on the international stage, Eldor Shomurodov, holds a special place in this process. His name attracts interest not only among Uzbek football fans but also among top European clubs.
According to reports, due to his successful performance at Italy’s famous club “Roma” in the last season, Shomurodov has become the focus of attention of many clubs. In particular, several teams from the US MLS league, France’s “Nantes” and “Marseille,” as well as Turkey’s “Fenerbahce” and “Trabzonspor,” want to see Shomurodov in their squads.
At the same time, Eldor’s former teammates from Russia also look at him with special respect and interest. In particular, Arseniy Logashov, who played together with him at “Rostov,” shared sincere opinions about Eldor in an interview with journalists:
“Eldor left a completely positive impression on me. He is very ambitious, physically strong, technically extremely well prepared, and a player who understands the situation on the field very well. His field vision and goal intuition deserve special recognition. It is difficult to compare him with others, because Eldor is a unique player,” said Logashov.
Shomurodov’s successes in European football are not just a coincidence. In his formation as a player, the head coach of “Rostov,” Valery Karpin, played a big role. The coach trusted Eldor and created an opportunity for him to fully realize his potential. Also, one of the player’s agents, German Tkachenko, remains a close adviser and support for him up to now.
Eldor Shomurodov’s path to European football began in 2020, when he moved to Italy’s “Genoa.” In his debut season, he scored 8 goals and attracted the attention of big clubs. After that, he moved to “Roma” and signed a long-term contract with the Italians. Then he played on loan for “Spezia” and “Cagliari.”
Shomurodov’s total career in Italy’s Serie A includes 129 matches, in which he scored 19 goals and made 13 assists. In addition, in 2021 he won the UEFA Conference League and wrote his name in the history of European football.
His statistics for the national team are also noteworthy. Since 2015, Eldor has played for the national team and during this period has participated in 82 matches, scoring 42 goals. This makes him one of the most prolific scorers of our national team.
Russian specialist Arseniy Logashov concluded his thoughts as follows:
“I have been following Uzbek football and I must say that they have formed a very strong and active team. Just as Greece achieved an unexpected result at the 2004 European Championship, Uzbekistan can also produce such a surprise at the 2026 World Cup. They have enough potential for this.”
Eldor Shomurodov’s big tests on the big stage are still ahead. With whom he will sign a contract and where he will play is still unclear. One thing is clear – wherever he plays, with his dedication, experience, and potential, he can become a main force of any team. We wish him good luck and new victories! Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
