Italian athlete tragically died at the Chengdu competition

Italian athlete Mattia Debertolis passed away during the XII World Games held in Chengdu, China. BBC Sport reported this.

According to the information, on August 8, while participating in the orienteering middle-distance race, Debertolis lost consciousness due to extreme heat.

He was immediately given medical assistance and taken to the hospital. However, despite doctors’ efforts, he died on August 12.

The competition organizers and the International Orienteering Federation expressed their deepest condolences to the athlete’s family and relatives, and also announced their readiness to provide necessary support to the Debertolis family.
