The final days of the 2025 World Cup, which ended in Liverpool, England, turned into a real sports festival. The fate of gold medals, especially in heavyweight competitions, determined not only individual winners but also the winning country in the overall team standings. Therefore, the matches, which received the status of a superfinal, were of great importance.
The match between Jahongir Zokirov and Oybek Oralbay from Kazakhstan, which was heated from the first minutes, turned into a thriller for sports people. Zokirov dominated the first two rounds. However, in the third round, under the influence of fatigue, he was unable to move more actively. In amateur boxing, the points were determined not by rounds, but by the overall score, so the judges gave the advantage to the Kazakh athlete and awarded the victory to Oralbay.
Difficult moments of Uzbek leather glove masters
Unfortunately, in both decisive finals, Uzbek boxers lost victory in the final rounds. Navbahor Hamidova won in the first two rounds, but received a warning in the 3rd round and lost the victory to Aida Abikeev from Kazakhstan. Well, the same scenario was repeated in the heaviest weight category - Jahongir Zokirov gave Oralbay a chance in the decisive minutes of the final.
As a result, the Kazakhstan national team won its 7th gold medal. This position put them at the top of the team standings.
Overall Medal Distribution
Thus, the Uzbekistan delegation finished with 6 gold medals at the World Championship. In total, our team won the most medals - 11 medals: 6 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze. In this regard, the work of Tulkin Kilichev and Elshod Rasulov in the preparation of the national team should be especially noted.
Kazakhstan took first place with 7 gold medals. It should be noted that many people mention that some of their medals were awarded in controversial situations. In particular, when Natalya Bogdanova was losing to an Australian opponent, the referee gave a warning and handed the victory to the Kazakh athlete, which caused great controversy.
