In the central and long-awaited main bout of the UFC Qatar tournament, Arman Tsarukyan and Dan Hooker engaged in a fierce clash in the octagon. At the conclusion of the fight, the skillful Armenian fighter achieved an assured victory via successful submission and threatened the champion directly.
First Round: Mastery in defense
As the bout began, Arman tried to inflict damage on his opponent through leg kicks. However, Hooker, utilizing his kick, caught his leg and tried to execute a transition to the ground (takedown). Arman performed his first successful defense in that situation, showing that he possesses a high level of skill not only in the offensive but also in the defensive style.
The fight, which continued in the center of the octagon, was quite interactive and interesting in terms of strike exchange (striking). Hooker, after a clinch, tried to apply the "guillotine" choking technique from the back control position, but Arman defended in parter and successfully completed the escape move. In response, Tsarukyan, from the side control position, attempted to apply his favorite method — the "arm-triangle" choke, but Hooker did not allow this. Thus, the intense first round came to an end.
Second Round: Snake-like tangled victory
In the second round, Tsarukyan acted strategically. Following a takedown attempt, Hooker defended and retaliated with a guillotine. Arman escaped even from this easily and began to perform the "arm triangle choke" in parter.
Tsarukyan, following the rule of "to the finish line — one step back and two steps forward," maintained distance on the ground and began to deliver strong strikes to the opponent. Hooker was now forced to defend against a technical knockout, not submission, which left his neck and one arm open. Arman Tsarukyan sensed the situation and, tangled like a snake, completely choked his opponent and achieved a premature victory via the "arm-triangle" choke technique.
After the fight: Threat to the champion
After the fight, Arman, as a true fighter, expressed his gratitude to Dan Hooker, because everyone had been running from him for a year and a half. Then he delivered an emotional speech and officially challenged the current champion Ilia Topuria to a one-on-one fight:
