An unusual incident occurred during the Spanish league match between "Getafe" and "Elche." While the home team was leading, they attempted to waste time by delaying returning the ball into play.
Notably, one of "Getafe" head coach José Bordalás's assistants was excessively active in this regard. In the 90th minute, however, the referee lost patience and issued a red card.
Interestingly, the card was not shown to a player or Bordalás himself but rather to his assistant. What makes this even more remarkable is that the assistant in question was former referee Enrique Mejuto González, who once officiated the 2004/2005 UEFA Champions League final.
That iconic final saw "Liverpool" make a historic comeback from 0–3 to defeat "Milan." Thus, in this match, a referee penalized a former referee by ejecting him from the field.
