Marcelo recalls how Mourinho motivated him

Marcelo, who spent many years at Real Madrid, spoke about his time working with Jose Mourinho. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.

The Brazilian defender played for the “Royal Club” from 2007 to 2022, while the Portuguese coach led the team from 2010 to 2013.

According to Marcelo, Mourinho was very straightforward in judging his performances. After a match against Huelva, the coach praised him on the team bus: “You’re the best, you’re doing unbelievable things.” But in the next game, after he played poorly, Mourinho said sharply: “You’ve turned into the opposite of yourself, you were very bad—what were you even doing on the pitch?”

“I like that approach; it changed my mindset,” Marcelo is quoted as saying by Madrid Xtra.

For the record, Marcelo ended his professional career in early 2025.
