Flick highlights goalkeepers’ importance, cites Courtois as an example

Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick stressed how important the role of goalkeepers is in his football. This was reported by euro-football.ru.reports.

In Saturday’s derby against Espanyol, Joan Garcia was the man of the match. The 24-year-old Spanish goalkeeper made six saves and played a major part in the Blaugrana’s 2–0 clean-sheet win.

According to Flick, having a top-quality goalkeeper is one of the decisive factors for elite clubs: today’s game proved it once again. He also cited Real Madrid as an example, noting that the Madrid side have a high-level keeper as well — Thibaut Courtois. The coach added that he is happy Barcelona have Joan.

Garcia is playing his first season for Barcelona. Before that, he represented Espanyol.
