Former Russia national team footballer Dmitry Sennikov voiced a cautious view on the possible return of Russian clubs and the national team to the international stage in 2026. This was reported by euro-football.ru. reports .
He said it is difficult to expect the situation to change dramatically in the near future. Sennikov also noted that key decisions could be postponed until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
“Nothing will be decided until the World Cup is over. Maybe something will change after that. But it’s hard to believe they will bring us back to competitions in 2026. This year, too, we’ll be watching from the sidelines,” Sovetsky Sport quotes Sennikov as saying.
Russia’s national team and the country’s clubs have been banned from international tournaments for nearly four years. During this period, the national team has played only friendly matches.
