In the first leg of the English League Cup semi-final, Chelsea lost to Arsenal at home 2-3. Following the match, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenor commented on the result and his team's performance, highlighting the players' dedication.
"I was pleased that the players worked tirelessly. They put in all their effort. The game was held in an open atmosphere," the specialist began. According to Rosenor, although the team was defeated, there was no "surrender" mood on the pitch, on the contrary, the fight went on until the end.
At the same time, the Chelsea manager didn't hide his mistakes in certain moments. He said he was especially upset with a goal conceded from set pieces: "I'm upset with a goal conceded after a corner kick." Rosenor believed that in such episodes the team should have behaved more collectively.
The most disappointing thing is the third goal. The coach emphasized that Chelsea had been able to return to play at the time and even started dominating for a period of time: "The third goal also hurt me because we were able to return to play and dominated at the time. But I can't blame the players." That is, Rosenor is dissatisfied with the result, but he is defending the team's spirit and work.
The coach also highlighted Garnacho, who scored a brace. Rosenor recalled that he had previously said he would come off the bench and play an important role, and noted that today the footballer justified this trust: "Garnacho? I said he would come on as a substitute and play an important role - today he proved it."
At this point, he also revealed his principle regarding the squad: according to Rosenor, it doesn't matter who starts in the main lineup or who comes off the bench - everyone must be ready for the game at any moment. "I have an excellent squad. Whether they play in the starting lineup or come off the bench - it doesn't matter, they need to be ready for the game," he said.
Now all attention will be focused on the return game. The second semi-final match will take place on February 3rd at the Emirates Stadium. It was also noted that in the first leg of the second semi-final, Manchester City defeated Newcastle 2-0.
In short, this defeat is not yet a verdict for Chelsea. One thing was noticeable from Rosenor's performance: the team hasn't lost confidence, now the task is to reduce the error in the standards in the return match and maintain the necessary composure to return to the game. The real exam at the Emirates starts on February 3rd.
