Colombia faces internal conflicts ahead of the World Cup

It is well known that the Uzbekistan national team, which will participate in the 2026 World Cup for the first time in history, was placed in Group K. In this quartet, our national team will compete with Colombia, Portugal and Congo.
An unexpected conflict arose in our first opponent in the World Cup - Colombia. The two leaders of the team - James Rodriguez and attacking player Luis Diaz - got into a heated verbal argument in the dressing room after a friendly match in March. The situation became so tense that teammates had to intervene.
According to sources, the tension and conflict have escalated due to internal competition and conflicts of interest within the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Tensions between the two stars have reached their peak amid speculation about the squad for the tournament and the fight for key roles. According to media reports, the team is even discussing the option of including only one leader in the final list for the World Cup.
The Colombian team played two friendly matches in March as part of its preparations for the World Cup: on March 27, they lost 1-2 to Croatia and on March 30, they lost 1-3 to France. These results have increased the pressure on the team ahead of the main tournament. As is known, the Colombian national team finished third in the South American qualifiers, officially securing their participation in the World Cup finals.
The schedule of matches in Group K is as follows:
- Colombia
- Portugal
- Uzbekistan
- Congo DR (later qualified for the World Cup through the intercontinental play-offs)
The Uzbekistan national team also continues to prepare thoroughly for the World Cup. Fabio Cannavaro's team defeated Gabon 3-1 and Venezuela 5-4 on penalties in the FIFA Series 2026, achieving their first historic victory.
