In comments provided through the press service, Pep Guardiola openly shared his thoughts about the match. According to him, the main source of confidence is the training process and the players’ level of preparation.
“My confidence comes from how we work in training and how much the players believe in what they have to do. Confidence starts exactly there,” said Guardiola.
He also emphasized that previous Premier League successes do not guarantee victory in the next match:
“Six previous Premier League wins do not mean we will win the next game. Because the squad has changed. Ederson, Ilkay Gündogan, Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Manuel Akanji — many experienced players are no longer with us.”
Guardiola also separately noted that the current squad includes many new and young players:
“Right now, for many players, this is their first serious experience. Cherki has never won the Premier League, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Abdukodir Husanov are also experiencing this kind of pressure for the first time. For Nico O’Reilly, this is a real big challenge. The newcomers are still in the adaptation process.”
According to him, the main task of the team is to reduce pressure and maintain confidence:
“I always tell them: this can happen very soon, and we will fight for it. Let’s just play. We don’t control everything, but we must control our own game.”
