AS Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini could not contain his emotions during a press conference ahead of the Serie A match against Atalanta. The specialist broke into tears and ended the event prematurely due to an open conflict with club advisor Claudio Ranieri. Goal.com reports this.
The conflict was sparked by a recent interview given by Ranieri. In it, the veteran coach stated that Gasperini was only the fourth choice for the club last summer and emphasized that all transfers were carried out specifically with the current manager's approval.
Gasperini described these remarks as an unexpected blow.
"There has never been such a tone between Ranieri and me. I did not expect this, and I have never encountered such treatment in my career.
I will not comment further on this matter to avoid harming the club, the team, and the fans," Gasperini said.
Internal conflicts are not limited to Ranieri alone. The coach confirmed that there are also disagreements with the club's medical staff regarding the physical condition of the players.
In particular, disputes continue between the management and doctors regarding Wesley's injury and his availability to play.
Gasperini became even more emotional when recalling his time at his former team, Atalanta. Remembering the unity in Bergamo and his close relationship with club president Antonio Percassi, he demonstrated deep distress over the current situation in Rome and left the room in tears.
