Will the World Cup final be replayed? Over 61,000 fans demand action from FIFA

Argentina fans, who saw their team defeated by Spain in the 2026 World Cup final, are demanding that FIFA replay the decisive match. At the moment, the number of supporters for this demand has exceeded 61,000.

On July 19 in New York , in the final match held, Spain defeated Argentina in extra time with a score of 1:0 to win the World Cup title. However, after the game, Argentine fans expressed dissatisfaction with some decisions made by head referee Slavko Vinčić, sparking widespread discussion on social media.

Following the match, an online petition was launched on the Change.org platform demanding that FIFA replay the final. So far, over 61,500 people have signed the appeal, and this figure continues to rise.

The author of the petition, Gisela Sanchez, claims that a series of controversial decisions by Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić significantly influenced the outcome of the game. She believes that decisions made in certain episodes were against the interests of the Argentina national team and affected the final result.

Notably, this is not the first time such a situation has occurred during the 2026 World Cup. Previously, after the semi-final between France and Spain, over 82,000 French fans signed a petition demanding a replay due to a controversial penalty decision. However, even in that case, FIFA did not change the official result, and the tournament standings remained unchanged.
