YouTube has announced new features for Premium subscribers to make working with podcasts more convenient. The updates include an AI-powered recommendation system, an "Auto speed" mode, and a special interface for listening on the go. This step signifies YouTube's ambition to strengthen its position in competition with rivals like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
The service, owned by Google, features a new recommendation system that generates personalized podcast lists based on the user's mood, favorite genres, and previously watched shows. This feature is similar to the previously introduced "Ask Music" tool and helps listeners find new content more easily. Additionally, as Netflix actively enters the video podcast segment, YouTube is striving to retain its audience.
One of the most interesting innovations is the "Auto speed" feature. It intelligently adjusts playback speed during parts where speech slows down or information density decreases. This allows the listener to save time while maintaining speech clarity. Unlike simple speed changes, the AI works dynamically based on the tone and pace of the speakers.
The new "On-the-go" mode is designed for users who are running, commuting, or busy with other tasks. It features enlarged control buttons, making it much easier to skip episodes or move to the next one. Currently, these features are available to Android users, with an iOS rollout expected in the coming months.
According to YouTube data, the podcast section on the platform has over 1 billion active monthly users. In April 2026, Premium users watched over 800 million hours of podcasts in total. The new features aim not only to maintain these metrics but also to further expand the audience by attracting audio content enthusiasts.
