Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Giorgia Meloni will visit Uzbekistan on May 28–29. This was reported through the official website of the Italian government. During the visit, important issues of bilateral cooperation are expected to be discussed, as well as several agreements to be signed.
It is noteworthy that the meetings will be held in one of the historical and ancient cities — Samarkand. This indicates the desire of the two countries’ leaders to strengthen not only political but also cultural ties.
Previously, the visit of the Italian prime minister to Uzbekistan was scheduled for the end of April but was postponed due to the unexpected death of the Pope. At the time, it was planned that Giorgia Meloni would hold bilateral talks during her visits to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and also participate in the Italy–Central Asia summit. Now, the visit will take place and may open a new historical chapter in relations between the two countries.
Relations between Italy and Uzbekistan have steadily developed in recent years. In June 2023, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, visited Italy and held productive talks with President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. At that time, an important milestone occurred in bilateral ties, and Uzbekistan and Italy officially became strategic partners.
As a continuation of that historic event, in November 2023, Italian President Sergio Mattarella paid a return visit to Uzbekistan, further strengthening strategic cooperation.
During the upcoming visit, cooperation in economic, political, cultural, and social spheres is expected to be discussed. The parties will also address increasing trade turnover, expanding investment projects, and deepening tourism ties between Uzbekistan and Italy.
With Giorgia Meloni’s visit, the negotiations in Samarkand carry great significance for both countries. This visit will not only play a key role in Uzbekistan–Italy relations but also contribute to broader cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union.
Thus, on May 28–29, the city of Samarkand will again host a major international political event. This high-level meeting is sure to open a new page in relations between Uzbekistan and Italy and further elevate mutually beneficial cooperation. As a result, the number of Italian companies in Uzbekistan may grow, along with trade and investment volumes.
Both sides are hopeful for a productive visit. This meeting may strengthen not only the relationship between Uzbekistan and Italy but also the overall partnership between Central Asia and the EU.
All eyes are now on this historic summit in Samarkand. Everyone is curious about what agreements will be signed and how the visit will affect the future of bilateral relations. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
