Source of smoke polluting the air in Navoi officially revealed
In recent days, thick black smoke covering Navoiy city and its surroundings has caused public concern and social media uproar. Videos and images showing polluted air sparked numerous complaints. In response, “Navoiyazot” JSC issued an official statement, reported Zamin.uz.

According to the company, the smoke is not linked to its operations. “Navoiyazot” specialists, in cooperation with officials from the Uzbekistan Ecological Party’s regional council, launched an investigation. They found that the dust-like smoke recorded on the morning of July 21 originated from private enterprises located on the site of the former Navoiy electrochemical plant.

To ensure transparency, the company installed an additional surveillance camera near its ammonium nitrate production unit. This confirmed that “Navoiyazot” is not responsible for the pollution.

Similar smoke was observed in the area on July 13 and 19. At the time, the regional Department of Ecology had attributed the pollution to “Navoiyazot.” However, new footage and investigations now refute those claims.

Authorities are currently inspecting the operations of the private facilities operating on the former chemical plant’s land. Further information will be provided upon the conclusion of this review.

Environmental experts warn that such emissions pose serious risks to public health. Residents are urged to remain alert and report any unusual smells or smoke to the appropriate agencies immediately.
