President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Namangan region on September 16 and closely examined the reforms being carried out in the region and the living standards of the population.
Changes in the region are visible right from the airport gate. New, modern terminals are being built here with a large investment of $140 million.
It should be recalled that this project was presented during the visit of the head of state last year. Currently, construction work is underway at a rapid pace.
The existing airport cannot fully serve the current flow of tourists. Therefore, when the new 3-story terminal is put into operation, the passenger capacity will increase by 2.5 times. It is planned to organize border control and visa departments, a business hall, shopping and catering outlets, a medical room and Duty Free shops.
At the same time, a large cargo terminal is being built on the territory of the airport. It will be possible to transport more than 50 tons of cargo per day and export to 90 countries. This will form a single cargo system on a valley scale and significantly increase the transit and export potential of the region.
For example, this year it is planned to attract 1.5 million foreign and more than 2 million local tourists to the Namangan region. It is also planned to increase the export of services to 210 thousand dollars. The export of the neighboring Andijan and Fergana regions is also on a steady growth path.
Special service equipment will be updated to create the opportunity to receive and service aircraft of various sizes at the airport. Catering services, a refueling complex and other additional facilities will also be built. The new terminal is planned to be commissioned next year.
President Mirziyoyev noted the need to develop the infrastructure around the airport in accordance with modern requirements. In particular, it was emphasized that hotels, shopping and entertainment complexes, various service facilities should be built, and parking and service facilities should be organized.
In general, the new airport and cargo terminal being built in Namangan are expected to give a major boost not only to the tourism and trade sectors, but also to the entire economy of the valley.
