By 2030, local train numbers and passenger traffic will surge

On 27 December 2025, an important decision was adopted to develop local railway services. Under the document, by 2030 it is planned to significantly increase passenger volumes on domestic rail routes, expand the coverage of electric train operations, and introduce new service quality standards.

The key goal set out in the decision is to raise the annual number of passengers on local routes from the current 10.5 million to 23.5 million. At the same time, the number of routes served by electric trains is expected to increase from 40 to 53.

Among the priority tasks, deep modernization of the strategically important Angren–Pop and Toshguzar–Boysun–Qumqo‘rg‘on railway sections is highlighted. Once completed, by 2030 high-speed electric train services are planned for the Fergana Valley regions—Andijan, Namangan and Fergana—as well as Surkhandarya Region.

The decision also sets clear plans for other routes. In particular, starting from 2026, high-speed electric trains will be launched on the Tashkent–Urgench–Khiva service via the fully electrified 465-km “Bukhara–Khiva” railway line.

It is also planned to complete the electrification of the 196-km “Miskin–Nukus” railway line by the end of 2026. This will enable modern high-speed electric train services in these areas as well.

Experts believe this decision will be important for creating convenient and fast transport options for residents, strengthening interregional connectivity, and giving a new boost to domestic tourism.
