Uzbekistan – 2030: industrial leap and the one-million-car plan

In the draft “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy, one of the main priorities is defined as fully leveraging local raw-material potential and rapidly developing industry based on advanced technologies. Along with creating high added value in the economy, the document explicitly sets the goal of increasing passenger car production to 1 million units.

In line with the strategy, by 2030 large-scale measures will be implemented to deepen production chains, introduce modern technologies in industry, and increase the share of competitive products. In this process, the automotive industry is expected to become one of the key driver sectors of the country’s economy.

The draft sets the task of increasing the output of technological products in industry by 2.5 times compared to 2023. The plan to sharply expand passenger car production is aligned with the same objectives—deep processing of local raw materials, expanding industrial cooperation, and generating added value within the country.

At the same time, strengthening the resource base for high-income sectors is at the core of the plans. In particular, by 2030 it is envisaged to increase copper production by 2.5 times, gold by 1.5 times, and silver and uranium by 3 times. A target has also been set to raise copper processing in the electrical engineering industry to 300 thousand tons.

These plans will help create new production capacities across industrial sectors, expand the share of competitive products in domestic and foreign markets, and accelerate technology transfer and cooperation. As a result, robust value chains are expected to be formed to ensure sustainable industrial growth.
