Talgo to provide maintenance for Afrosiyob trains

Spain’s Talgo has secured another major win in Uzbekistan: a large long-term service agreement has been signed with Uzbekistan Railways to maintain the fleet of high-speed electric trains operating on Afrosiyob routes. According to El Periódico Digital, the contract is valued at €80 million and covers the next 10 years. This was reported by upl.uzreports.

The deal covers six Talgo 250 trainsets. These trains form the “core fleet” of the country’s high-speed rail service and are well known to passengers and tourists under the Afrosiyob brand. In Spain, the agreement is seen as one of the region’s largest service projects in recent years.

Cooperation between Talgo and Uzbekistan’s railway system has lasted for more than 15 years: ties were established from the launch of the first high-speed services on the Tashkent–Samarkand route. The new contract goes beyond previous deliveries and strengthens comprehensive support throughout the equipment’s entire “life cycle.”

Under the agreement, Talgo specialists will carry out a full range of service work to keep the trains in constant technical readiness: scheduled preventive maintenance, system diagnostics, and restorative repairs of varying complexity. Continuous supply of original spare parts and components is also guaranteed, aiming to reduce downtime risks and maintain a high level of passenger transport safety.

Talgo 250 (Afrosiyob) trains feature a passive carbody tilting system: this solution allows them to pass curved sections 20–30% faster than usual while maintaining passenger comfort.
