Penalties for the abuse of personal information through artificial intelligence have increased

In Uzbekistan, administrative responsibility for illegal processing of personal data using artificial intelligence and its dissemination to the public has been strengthened. Now, if such a situation is detected, the "weapons" used in the commission of the offense - that is, a telephone, computer, server, carrier, or other technical means - may be confiscated, and a large fine may be imposed.

The Law introduces a number of additions and amendments to the Law "On Informatization." They are aimed, on the one hand, at defining the general basis for the use of artificial intelligence technologies, and on the other hand, at clarifying the tasks and powers of the authorized state body in this area.

Another important point - the law clearly defines the concept of artificial intelligence: it is indicated as a set of technological solutions that can give a result close to the results of human mental activity in imitating human knowledge and skills, independent learning, searching for solutions, and performing specific tasks. At the same time, it was emphasized that in legally significant decisions affecting human rights and freedoms, it is impossible to rely solely on the conclusions of information systems based on artificial intelligence.

The most discussed part is administrative liability: for illegal processing of personal data using artificial intelligence, as well as their dissemination through the media, telecommunications networks, or the Internet, a fine of 50 to 100 BRV (according to calculations, up to 41.2 million soums) has been established, along with the confiscation of the means of the offense.

The law is said to have entered into force from the date of its official publication. So, there's no such thing as "we'll see later": those working with personal information - especially those in the field of content, advertising, SMM, media, and IT - should review the legal requirements for collecting, storing, processing, and disseminating information right now.
