Uzbekistan's most populous region revealed

As of April 1, 2026, the permanent population of Uzbekistan reached 38,382,685 people. This figure has increased by 684.9 thousand people, or 1.8 percent, compared to the same period last year. Relevant data was released by the National Statistics Committee.

When analyzed by region, Samarkand region maintained its lead as the most populous region. 4,396.8 thousand people reside in this area. It is followed by Fergana and Kashkadarya regions.

Conversely, Syrdarya region was recorded as the least populated area — 949.6 thousand people live here.

According to experts, such differences between regions are influenced by natural growth rates, migration processes, and economic factors. In particular, faster population growth is observed in large regions with developed infrastructure.

  • Fergana region — 4,239.4 thousand people;
  • Kashkadarya region — 3,731.8 thousand people;
  • Andijan region — 3,533.9 thousand people;

  • Tashkent city — 3,195.9 thousand people;
  • Tashkent region — 3,174.6 thousand people;
  • Surkhandarya region — 3,024.9 thousand people;
  • Bukhara region — 2,112.2 thousand people;
  • Khorezm region — 2,075.0 thousand people;
  • Republic of Karakalpakstan — 2,057.7 thousand people;
  • Jizzakh region — 1,573.2 thousand people;
  • Navoi region — 1,115.0 thousand people;
  • Syrdarya region — 949.6 thousand people.

Overall, a steady increase in the country's population is being observed. This intensifies the need to accelerate socio-economic development, create new jobs, and further develop infrastructure.
