Amid the change in US policy towards Kiev, 20 European countries and Canada have announced that they will continue to assist Ukraine, which has been resisting Russian military aggression for almost three years.
"We support Ukraine and will fulfill all our obligations to ensure peace and security in Europe," French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday, February 19, after an informal summit in Paris attended by the heads of state and government of Lithuania, Finland, Cyprus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Portugal, Estonia, Greece, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
In addition, in addition to Macron, the meeting was also attended by the acting President of Romania, Ilie Bolojan, and the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden.
Emmanuel Macron stressed that Ukraine must always participate in peace efforts and that its rights must be respected. In addition, he said, it is necessary to take into account the security concerns of European countries. Peace must be stable and accompanied by credible guarantees, the French president said.
Second summit in Paris in a week
The first extraordinary summit on Ukraine and European security was held on February 17, the day after the Munich Security Conference, at the initiative of Emmanuel Macron. The participants in the Paris meeting discussed potential security guarantees for Ukraine, European defense spending, and the new US administration's efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Several EU countries, including Romania and the Czech Republic, were dissatisfied with Macron's failure to invite them to the meeting. Paris organized a new summit in an expanded format on February 19. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, unlike the first one, did not attend the new meeting. Follow “Zamin” news on “Telegram”
