Ukraine should consider introducing mandatory military service for women, said Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavel Palisa.
In an interview with Bihus.Info, Palisa referenced Israel’s model, stating that the Russian threat may persist for another 10–30 years.
– Society must accept the idea that everyone, not just men, should serve, – he said.
He noted that Ukraine’s Constitution includes provisions on conscription and called for applying it to women as well.
– If a citizen wants free education or to hold public office, they should have military experience, he added.
As of September 2023, Ukraine’s armed forces include 68,000 women, of which 48,000 are active soldiers, and about 5,000 serve in combat zones.
Palisa clarified that this is his personal opinion and he’s not sure if the Presidential Office will support it. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
