A powerful explosion in the Indian capital, New Delhi, has alerted the entire city's population. According to NDTV, the explosion occurred near the historic Red Fort, in a densely populated area.
According to preliminary official data, at least eight people were killed and another 24 citizens were injured in a car parked near a metro station. Currently, the injured have been transferred to nearby hospitals, and the condition of some is reportedly serious.
The exact causes of the explosion are not yet known. An operational investigation team, criminologists, and technical specialists were dispatched to the scene. They are working on identifying traces of injuries and the epicenter of the explosion.
Emergency services responded quickly: 25 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene, and the police surrounded the entire area. Traffic near the Red Fortress has been temporarily suspended, and residents have been evacuated to safe areas.
The Indian Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the formation of a special investigative commission into the incident. It has not yet been officially commented on whether this attack is related to a terrorist act or a man-made situation.
