A powerful explosion occurred in the center of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, last night. The incident occurred near one of the city's busiest districts - near commercial and administrative buildings. According to preliminary data, 12 people died as a result of the explosion, and another 21 citizens received injuries of varying severity. Geo News reported this, citing police sources.
Police, criminal-technical experts, and ambulance teams arrived at the scene within minutes. The injured were quickly taken to major hospitals in the city, with some reported to be in serious condition.
Currently, the area where the incident occurred has been completely cordoned off by security forces, and people in the surrounding buildings have been evacuated. Police stated that the exact cause of the explosion is currently unknown, and physical evidence is being collected from the scene.
"The type of explosive device has not yet been determined, but according to preliminary estimates, it could be a bomb placed inside a car. "Accurate information will be provided after the completion of forensic medical and criminal examinations," the police representative told reporters.
According to experts, it is possible that the incident was carried out with the aim of putting pressure on the country's law enforcement system or creating fear among the population.
Although the Pakistani government has conducted large-scale anti-terrorist operations in recent years, militant groups are still operating in some remote areas. This event once again shows that the country's security system is facing a serious test.
