Political disputes over Venezuela are intensifying in the United States
The U.S. Senate is considering limiting President Donald Trump’s ability to continue military actions against Venezuela without congressional approval. The issue came onto the agenda following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces.

In recent months, U.S. forces have carried out several military operations around Venezuela. Earlier, the administration told Congress that there were no plans to change the government in Venezuela. However, Maduro’s capture has increased concerns among some senators that this process could expand.

Senators supporting the measure emphasize that the president must obtain congressional approval for prolonged military actions. In the previous vote, the initiative failed by a narrow margin, but this time some senators may change their positions.

At the same time, opponents of the measure argue that Maduro’s capture was not a military action but an operation within the framework of a criminal case. Even if the Senate approves the measure, it will require approval from the House of Representatives and a decision by the president to take effect.
