US Greenland Ambition: Europe Pushes Back
Denmark and European countries are sending small military groups to Greenland. This is being done to ensure security amid US President Donald Trump’s interest in the island. Denmark and Greenland representatives met with the US, trying to quickly resolve the dispute.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Trump wants to take over Greenland. Denmark is working to prevent this situation from becoming a reality. Trump called the island strategic and rich in minerals, saying it must be under US control to protect it from Russia or China.

Germany, France, Sweden, and Norway are sending military personnel to Greenland. The Danish Defense Ministry said allies are studying ways to increase exercises on the island. This sends two messages to the US: first – they are ready to defend the island, second – they protect Greenland’s sovereignty.

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen confirmed the island will not be governed by the US and will remain part of Denmark and NATO. Denmark and Greenland representatives will form a working group with the US to discuss the island’s security. NATO and European countries supported Greenland’s sovereignty.
