Trump raised tariffs on Europe over Greenland
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will raise tariffs against European countries to buy Greenland. He wrote about this on his Truth Social page and said that tariffs will increase until the United States buys Greenland. Greenland is a large Arctic island of Denmark.

Trump said that from February 1, additional tariffs of 10 percent will be applied to goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and Britain. He also said that tariffs will rise to 25 percent from June 1 and will continue until Greenland is purchased. Trump considers Greenland important for U.S. security.

After this statement, protests took place in Denmark and Greenland. Protesters opposed the U.S. demands and said that Greenland should decide its own future. European countries also supported Denmark and said that the U.S. action could negatively affect NATO.

Currently, Denmark has sent military personnel to the island to strengthen security over Greenland. Negotiations and tariff issues are expected to continue.
