In Italy, a dentist who removed 11 healthy teeth from a patient was imprisoned

Dentists in the city of Genoa, Italy, were held accountable for unnecessarily, excessively and incorrectly removing 11 teeth from a patient. This was reported by the publication “Corriere della Sera”. The incident was also widely discussed on social networks and once again reminded people of how searching for cheap services can sometimes lead to serious consequences.
According to the source, a 55-year-old woman found doctors online who offered services at low prices and decided to undergo dental procedures. During the consultation, specialists convinced the patient that most of the work could be completed in one day, showed her special prosthetics, but did not conduct the most important stage — an X-ray examination. Moreover, one of the doctors stated that without the procedure she could lose all her teeth, which further frightened the woman.
As a result, within just four hours, 11 healthy teeth were removed from the woman. On the third day, prosthetics were installed, but they differed from what had been promised earlier, and it later became known that these prosthetics were temporary rather than permanent.
The victim faced serious difficulties after the operation: she could not speak, could not eat properly, and as a result her quality of life worsened. This also affected her personal life: being embarrassed by her dental problems and the severe consequences, she broke up with her partner. Later, another dentist performed surgery on her, but the woman still cannot chew food properly.
According to the court decision, one of the dentists who incorrectly removed the 11 teeth was sentenced to three months in prison, while the second received one year and five months of imprisonment. In addition, the injured woman was paid compensation in the amount of 14,300 euros.
