A tank exploded at a Japanese training ground

A powerful explosion at a military training ground in the southwestern region of Japan caused a tragedy. As a result of the incident, three servicemen were killed, and another sustained injuries of varying severity.

According to local media, including Kyodo News, the incident occurred on April 21 during tank exercises at the Heejuday training ground in Oita Prefecture. According to preliminary data, the tank shell exploded unexpectedly prior to the firing process.

It is said that two of the deceased soldiers were in their 30s, and another was about 40 years old. During the training, they performed the duties of tank commander, gunner, safety officer, and driver.

Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi described the incident as "extremely regrettable" during a meeting with journalists in Tokyo, noting that the causes of the incident are being thoroughly investigated. According to him, there are plans to further strengthen security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

According to emergency services, the wounded soldier was conscious and was provided with immediate medical assistance. However, it was noted that he had burns on his face.

Experts suggest that the incident may be linked to a technical malfunction or the unsuitability of the ammunition. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact causes of the explosion.
