Vitalik Buterin responds to Ethereum Foundation criticisms

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has responded to criticisms regarding the role of the Ethereum Foundation (EF) in the ecosystem. Opposing those calling for the organization to focus more on token price support and marketing, he emphasized that the foundation's primary mission is to maintain neutrality. This is reported by Cointelegraph.com reports .

According to Buterin, the Ethereum Foundation will continue to focus on areas such as censorship resistance, open-source software, long-term research, and cybersecurity. He stated that the foundation aims to keep the Ethereum protocol decentralized and is not focused on competing with other high-throughput blockchains.

These statements come at a time when major ETH holders are selling their assets and personnel changes are occurring within the Ethereum Foundation. Currently, the price of Ethereum is around 2,094 USD, which is 50 percent lower than the record high of 5,000 USD in August 2025. Buterin noted that the EF owns only 0.16 percent of the total ETH supply, whereas other foundations hold between 10 and 50 percent.

Cryptocurrency journalist Laura Shin linked the problems in the Ethereum network to the 2024 Dencun upgrade. While this upgrade reduced fees for layer-2 transactions, it caused a sharp decline in Ethereum mainnet revenues. Buterin stated that the foundation will save funds for future research and sell less ETH.
