It is well known that rehabilitating convicts, supporting their personal growth and spiritual development is one of the pressing issues for lawmakers. To this end, an important amendment to the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan is expected.

In the near future, a new Article 74-1 is planned to be added to the legislation. This article will open up new opportunities for inmates. Specifically:
- For each book read and exam passed successfully, the prison term will be reduced by 3 days.

- The book list will be approved by the Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment. It is expected to include works focused on humanism, moral-ethical upbringing, and socially beneficial topics.

Even those who committed serious crimes or have been convicted multiple times may benefit from this opportunity. However, the final decision in such cases will be made by the court, taking into account the opinion of the victims.

Senator Burkhanov commented on this initiative: “This measure is being introduced to morally reform convicts and contribute to their spiritual development.”

Additionally, this procedure encourages inmates to read books and strive for positive change through knowledge. Experts emphasize that this initiative will serve as an important foundation for their reintegration into society in the future.
