Another crime that drew public attention occurred in the Chilanzar district of the capital, Tashkent. In the Yakkabog neighborhood, a 20-year-old man snatched an expensive gold chain from a woman’s neck and fled the scene.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the incident took place early in the morning. The woman, who works at a catering establishment, was performing her daily duties when an unknown person approached her. She thought he was a regular customer, but suddenly the man tore off a gold ornament worth 10.2 million soums from her neck and ran away.
The victim immediately contacted law enforcement authorities. According to her, officers arrived within a short time and promptly took action. “Within five minutes, officers arrived and immediately began search operations. Soon after, we were informed that the offender had been found,” she said.
As a result of оператив search measures, the suspect — a young man born in 2006 — was detained in the Yangiyol district. He was handed over to investigative authorities, and the necessary documents were prepared.
It was revealed that the suspect had previously been convicted under Article 169 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (theft). Despite this, he did not draw proper conclusions and committed another crime.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan (robbery), and investigative actions are ongoing.
In his statement, the suspect expressed regret. “It turns out you can’t escape. They found me quickly anyway. I do not recommend this to anyone. One must live by honest work. I regret what I did and ask everyone for forgiveness,” he said.
