Reports have emerged in the media claiming that Cristiano Ronaldo did not travel to Tajikistan for a match against the "Istiqlol" team as part of the second stage of the AFC Champions League. It was clarified that this information is false and misleading.
The reality is that Ronaldo, in consultation with head coach Jorge Jesus, decided not to participate in the group stage matches of the second stage of the AFC Champions League. During a press conference held in September, Jesus confirmed this decision, explaining that the 40-year-old footballer made this choice considering his health.
Ronaldo also did not appear in the first four matches of "Al-Nasr" in the second stage of the AFC Champions League. Therefore, reports claiming that the footballer refused to travel for the fifth match are far from the truth.
For reference, the AFC Champions League 2 is considered a second-tier club competition in Asia. Cristiano Ronaldo’s current contract with "Al-Nasr" runs until mid-2027.
