Young Para Athletes Make History with 197 Medals in Dubai

Uzbekistan's sports delegation, which achieved an unprecedented result at the 5th Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, returned home with a celebratory spirit. The heroic athletes were warmly welcomed at Tashkent International Airport by state and public representatives, fans, and their families.

At this prestigious competition, Uzbekistan's young para athletes claimed a total of 197 medals. Among them were 99 gold, 57 silver, and 41 bronze medals, which secured an absolute first place for the delegation in the overall team ranking. This achievement marks a new chapter not only for the current event but also in the history of Uzbekistan’s para sports.

In particular, the performance of Bahriddin Kholbotayev in para powerlifting deserves special recognition. Competing in the 54 kg weight category, he lifted 121 kilograms to not only win the gold medal but also set a new Asian record. This accomplishment showcases his personal perseverance and highlights the favorable conditions created in Uzbekistan for para sports development.

Held from December 7 to 14, the Asian Youth Para Games gathered nearly 1,500 young athletes from 35 countries across the continent to compete in 11 sports disciplines. Uzbekistan's delegation proudly participated in para athletics, para taekwondo, boccia, para swimming, para arm wrestling, and para powerlifting, among others.

It should be noted that such a remarkable result is no coincidence. For comparison, at the 4th Asian Youth Para Games held in Bahrain in 2021, Uzbek athletes won a total of 16 medals and ranked 6th in the overall team standings. In the short time since then, Uzbekistan’s young para athletes have made a tremendous leap forward.

These victories are the fruits of determination, hard work, and confidence. Most importantly, these results lay a solid foundation for even greater triumphs in the future.
