Kiryakov says football level in Asia is completely different

Former Dynamo Moscow striker and ex-Russia international Sergey Kiryakov commented on remarks by Russian Football Union (RFU) head Aleksandr Dyukov. Dyukov stressed that the decision not to leave UEFA and not to move to another continental confederation was the “only possible” solution.

“In Asia the level is completely different — not like European teams. Staying is the right decision; it’s better to take a pause. If we played there, the level of Russian football would undoubtedly drop,” Kiryakov was quoted as saying by Sovetsky Sport. The Russia national team has been barred from UEFA and FIFA competitions since 2022.
