Nikolay Pisarev, who works on the staff of Russia national team head coach Valery Karpin, commented on striker Artyom Dzyuba being called up to the national team again in March. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.

According to Pisarev, Karpin asked him to attend Akron’s match and watch Dzyuba in person. After watching the game, the coach noted that the striker scored a goal and provided an assist, and had also produced effective performances in several consecutive matches before that. In Pisarev’s view, such form deserved a national-team call-up.

The specialist said there is no strict rule against calling up players over 30, but since the team is being built for the future, it is preferable to follow this criterion whenever possible. He also added that when Dzyuba was called up, the situation with strikers was difficult, whereas a similar issue is now being seen in the full-back positions. That is why the coaching staff also considered the experienced Douglas in due time.

The 37-year-old Artyom Dzyuba has played 56 matches for Russia, scoring 31 goals and registering 16 assists. The Akron forward is currently the national team’s all-time top scorer.
