Pisarov says Russia would have qualified for the World Cup without sanctions

Russia national team coaching staff member Nikolay Pisarov said that without sanctions and with permission to take part in qualifying, the team would have secured a spot at the 2026 World Cup. euro-football.ru reportsreports.

He was reminded that among European national teams Russia is 18th in the FIFA rankings, while 16 UEFA teams will take part in the World Cup. However, Pisarov did not consider this a decisive factor.

In the coach’s view, Russia would still have managed to finish ahead of some opponents in qualifying and find a way to reach the final tournament.

Russia last played at the World Cup in 2018. The team led by Stanislav Cherchesov reached the quarter-finals then.
