Former striker Andrey Arshavin, who played for Saint Petersburg’s Zenit and London’s Arsenal, shared his thoughts on the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.
According to him, with more World Cup spots available under the current format, the Russia national team could quickly qualify for major tournaments once it returns to international competition. Speaking on Zenit’s YouTube channel, Arshavin said: “They won’t make it in time for the 2026 World Cup, but Euro 2028 is possible.”
As a reminder, the Russia national team has been suspended from international competitions by FIFA and UEFA since February 2022, and the ban remains in force.
The next World Cup will be held in North America in the summer of 2026. The tournament will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.
