Enrique Collar, Atletico’s longest-serving captain, has died

Madrid’s Atletico club has announced with sadness the death of former player and long-time captain Enrique Collar. He passed away at the age of 91. This was reported by euro-football.ru.reports.

Collar captained the team from 1960 to 1969, which is recorded as the longest captaincy spell in Atletico’s history.

Over 16 years at the club, he made 470 appearances and scored 105 goals. Enrique Collar still ranks among the top five players with the most matches played in Atletico’s history.

The footballer retired in 1970 and also played for teams such as Cadiz, Murcia and Valencia. With the Spain national team, he became European champion in 1964 — in the final, Spain defeated the USSR national team.
