Monaco increased the pressure on themselves in France with another disappointing result. The Monegasques have lost six of their last seven Ligue 1 matches. This time, at the Louis II Stadium, Lyon won 3–1 and moved 7 points clear of Monaco in the standings, euro-football.ru reports.reports.
The goals came in the following order: in the 38th minute Schultz opened the scoring, and just before the break Koulibaly made it 1–1. In the second half, Schultz put Lyon back in front, and in the 79th minute Abner scored the third to effectively seal the game for the hosts.
This time Alexander Golovin couldn’t be the on-field leader as expected. He delivered many crosses from the left flank, but only one out of ten found its target. His only shot from the edge of the box was an easy catch for the goalkeeper, while his pass accuracy was 93%. Still, there was little cutting edge in attack, and Golovin was substituted in the 77th minute.
Up front, Mika Biereth and Magnes Akliouche also failed to stand out. Biereth’s several poor touches and almost ineffective involvement, along with Akliouche’s lack of sharpness in the final actions despite spending more time on the ball, made Monaco’s frontline look “toothless.” The only episode that could be called positive in attack with both involved was Biereth’s key pass.
For goalscorer Mamadou Koulibaly, the match ended on a tough note. Although he equalised in the 45th minute, he was sent off in the 70th after catching Tagliafico in the face with his boot. After that, Monaco tried to find a спасение with ten men at 1–2 and then 1–3, but the score didn’t change.
