Rennes beat Lille away while playing with a man advantage

On Saturday, Lille hosted Rennes. The home side were reduced to ten men in the first half, yet the Dogs kept attacking, but the numerical disadvantage eventually took its toll. This was reported by euro-football.rureports.

Early in the match, after a corner, Breel Embolo came very close to opening the scoring, but a defender blocked the ball’s path. In the 14th minute, Lille defender Alexsandro Ribeiro received a red card for a foul on Embolo that fell under the “last man” rule. Late in the half, Olivier Giroud set up Matias Fernandez-Pardo for a shot, but the goalkeeper had the situation under control.

In the 49th minute of the second half, the visitors opened the scoring: Przemyslaw Frankowski headed in accurately — 0:1. Seven minutes later, Embolo provided the assist and Quentin Merlin doubled the lead — 0:2. Later, Embolo himself could have scored, but from a good position he sent the ball wide, past the post.

As a result, Lille lost 0:2, stayed in 4th place and saw their winning streak come to an end. Rennes are 6th, two points behind.
